“Steegwirt” in Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt

Tradition meet modern

On the northern tip of Lake Hallstatt, where the fjord-like lake flows into the Traun, lies the rustic inn “Steegwirt”. Built in 1571, by the salt merchant Khappl, as a stop for the mariners, who at that time transported the salt, from the oldest salt mine in the world in Hallstatt, over the lake and the down the Traun to the rest of the world. And therefore they traditionally serve bread and salt at the table as a welcome gift. Your host promises fine dining and you will not be disappointed.

The hearty cuisine is characterised by creativity, however the house specialty is the “Bratl in der Rein” (roast pork served in a “Reindl”, a baking dish). During the summer, the secluded beer garden invites you to relax and in winter the quaint parlour is a culinary meeting point for guests from around the world. Additionally, the “Steegwirt”, located on the B166, invites you year round to numerous culinary events.
