First of all…

The following hike is a high alpine hiking tour. Mountain experience, stamina, sure-footedness and good preparation are the best prerequisites for a successful and safe day trip. Please do not attempt it wearing sports shoes, normal street shoes or flip-flops! This ensures nothing will get in the way of an adventurous hike. Still have questions? From the Gosau-Hintertal to the Hinterer Gosausee (2 ½ hours)

From the Gosauschmied inn in Gosau-Hintertal, hike on the signposted panoramic trail to Gosausee into the valley until the Urzeitpark, then continue along a sidewalk along the road until you can branch off to the right from a parking spot. Now it goes on a beautiful trail on many steps directly up to the Vorderen Gosausee (937 m). From there you have the famous view of the Dachstein mountain, Mitterspitz and Torstein with the Gosaugletschern.

Continue on either left on a forest road or right over a trail to the end of the lake. There, continue flat past the Niedere Holzmeisteralm and a hunting lodge, where you can see the small Gosaulacke on the right. As a result, the broad trail gradually increases and you get to the magnificent Hinterer Gosausee, which is located at 1160 m. Near the ascent there is the mostly managed Hohe Holzmeisteralm, which invites you.

From the Hinterer Gosausee to the Adamekhütte (3 ½ hours)

On the south bank of the Hinterer Gosausees begins the rather shallow former Reitsteig (dates back to the Imperial aera), which overcomes the very steep rocky flank in many bends. You pass the remains of the former coarse stone hut, where the terrain becomes flatter and you come to the High Riedel, where the marked trail to the Simonyhütte branches off to the left. Now it is not far to the already visible from afar Adamekhütte, which towers at 2196 m. This belongs to the Alpine Association Austria.

Many prominent figures have explored this region: nobles like Archduke Johann and Empress Elisabeth, scientists such as Friedrich Simony, poets and authors like Nikolaus Lenau, painters like Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, musicians and composers such as Johannes Brahms. Did they ever think that hiking in the Salzkammergut might have no end? That they could tramp from one lake to the next and then onward to yet another? Day by day along the shores of crystal-clear waters? Week-long excursions through quiet valley forests, over sunny alpine meadows and up mountains fuelled by the anticipation of the next destination? Tips: Hiking in spring

The days in the Salzkammergut are getting longer. The temperatures are finally getting warmer, more and more hikers are heading to the mountains. But be careful: Especially in spring, there are a few things to consider: There is often still a lot of snow on the mountains, so be careful when crossing snowfields. After winter, you are usually still a bit "rusty", so warm up accordingly in advance and plan your tour carefully. Let your host know the planned route. This can lead to quick help in an emergency. But there's more to consider:
