The ascent from the valley is made easy by the largest cable-car in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut - the Dachstein Gable-car with its three stages. It opens for us an imposing lookout peak an the north-east flank of the Dachstein. The ascent in the gondola is overwhelming. Quietly slipping past dwarf-pines and rockfaces we reach the Berghaus Krippenstein within a few minutes. The gondola driver will often point out chamois looking for food an the rockfaces. The Berghaus Krippenstein comprises not only the cable-car, but has a restaurant. In the winter the Krippenstein is besieged by countless ski tourists, because it is in a wonderful ski region served by several Lifts.
A ten-kilometre 'Ski-Autobahn' is among the loveliest runs in the northern Alps. But we wish to Nike to the summit of the Krippenstein. Lovely, safe paths haue been laid. Our tip: When we have enough time, we can ride on the third stage of the cablecar, reaching the Gjaidalm upper terminal in ten minutes - it takes two hours on foot. The Krippenstein summit is a favourite starting point for paragliders and hang gliders.
