The “Ostuferwanderweg” (East shore hiking trail) - Always along Lake Hallstatt
Note for hikers on the East Bank Hiking Trail
The east bank hiking trail will be closed between Obertraun and the Bad Goiser village of "Obersee" from 13 to 28 May 2024 from Monday to Thursday between 07:30 and 16:30 hrs. Exceptions are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as Whit Monday. The East Bank Cycle Path (Ostuferwanderweg) is also affected. The excursion restaurant "Seeraunzn" is freely accessible by bike and on foot from Bad Goisern, even during the closing times.
One more note
The ferry service between Hallstatt train station and Hallstatt center is expected to be suspended until 15.05.2024, due to massive storm damage to the railway line. As an alternative for hikers, we recommend a crossing from Obertraun to Hallstatt with the old salt ship "Navia". Or with the round trip boat of the Hallstätter Seeschiffahrt from the stops "Obertraun", "Hallstatt Markt/Centre" and "Hallstatt Lahn".

Hinweis für Wanderer auf dem Ostuferwanderweg
Der Ostufer-Wanderweg ist zwischen Obertraun und der Bad Goiserer Ortschaft "Obersee" vom 13. bis 28. Mai 2024 von Montag bis Donnerstag zwischen 07:30 und 16:30 gesperrt. Ausgenommen sind Freitag, Samstag und Sonntag, sowie der Pfingstmontag. Auch der Ostufer-Radweg ist davon betroffen. Das Ausflugslokal "Seeraunzn" ist mit dem Bike und zu Fuß von Bad Goisern auch zu den Sperrzeiten frei erreichbar.
Noch ein Hinweis
Der Fährverkehr zwischen Hallstatt Bahnhof und Hallstatt Zentrum ist voraussichtlich bis 15.05.2024 eingestellt, auf Grund massiver Sturmschäden an der Bahnlinie. Als Alternative für Wanderer empfehlen wir Ihnen eine Überfahrt von Obertraun nach Hallstatt mit dem alten Salzschiff "Navia". Oder mit dem Rundfahrtschiff der Hallstätter Seeschiffahrt ab den Haltestellen "Obertraun", "Hallstatt Markt/Zentrum" und "Hallstatt Lahn".

Ferry service suspended until May 15, 2024
The ferry service between "Hallstatt train station" and "Hallstatt centre" is expected to be suspended until 15.05.2024. There is no ferry-boat during this period. A substitute service has been set up for train passengers. Guests who wish to visit Hallstatt by train must continue by bus from the "Steeg-Gosau" train station.
Easy-Going along the Lake
Whether spring, summer or autumn - the “Ostuferwanderweg” not only connects nature lovers from all over the world, but also the three lakeside communities of Bad Goisern, Hallstatt and Obertraun with each other.
No wonder the picturesque discovery route is so popular with all age groups. Because even with an all-terrain pram, the shores of Lake Hallstatt are easy to admire and hike.
For big and small explorers
As with many hiking trails in the Salzkammergut, there are numerous starting points. For our route description, we decided on the variant from Bad Goisern, Steeg district via the "Seeraunzn", the Hallstatt train station to the gates of the Obertrauner Lido.
East bank trail around Lake Hallstatt
Near the bathing area, about five-minutes walk from the Obertraun railway station, the Ostufer-Wanderweg (east-bank path) begins opposite the boat pier. Here is also the starting point of the Obertraun Höhenweg. But we walk along the railway line further in the direction of Schloß `Grub'. This private property is fenced, and we must remain outside. Soon you will notice that you are on a nature-study trail. Along the path, notice-boards have been erected which give information of the luxuriant vegetation here.
Next to a railway hut we again come to the bank of the Hallstatt Lake. From here, you have a lovely view of the 4,500-year-old salt-mining community. In a half-hour we reach the Hallstatt railway station and the boat jetty. Our path leads further along the railway line, over a romantic suspension bridge and on a secure rock path, then on a smaller path along the lake. After about an hour we reach the area of the Obersee railway station and the Wanderwegstüberl (Seeraunzn), where we obtain our hiking stamp. Enjoy the lovely view to the west bank of the Hallstatt lake and the ~Gosaumühle peninsular. Obersee has not only a railway station but also a boat station serving Steeg and Hallstatt m2.
can carry on toward Steeg. In a further hour we come to Au on the main road and the Steeg-Gosau railway station. From here we can travel back to Hallstatt by bus, boat or rail. Those with the energy and two to three hours to spare, can walk back from Steeg on the Soleleitungsweg or the main road to Hallstatt and Obertrau n. The hike around the Hallstatt lake is a tour lasting a whole day and takes seven hours.

Parallel to the “Ostuferwanderweg” also runs the regional Salzkammergut railway.
